Made possible with grants from the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund, Wyoming Humanities Council and Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, six Chief Dull Knife College students gathered last spring at the Vore Buffalo Jump to learn the lost art of brain tanning buffalo hides from Larry Belitz of Hot Springs, originator of restoring the art of constructing buffalo hide tipis. The Cheyenne tribe, along with several others, used this natural sinkhole between 1550 and 1800 to kill, butcher and process thousands of buffalo essential to their survival.
